Pesh

Pesh is the name of a stocky tree native to the enan_plain as well as the drug that can be produced from the sap of said tree.

Distribution

In its native enan plain the pesh tree grows naturally. Its light seeds are carried far by the wind and they never grow close to each other in nature.
Starting from the third Age it has been introduced to Mraka for the purpose of drug production. There it cannot survive naturally but the local weather traditions, when the plant is tended to and fertilized correctly, allow it to grow much denser and faster. In this agricultural environment the trees' surface roots grow together to form a dense formation.

Pesh as a Drug

The trees sap has hallucinogenic properties as well as inducing a sense of well-being. As such it has long been consumed as a drug.

In Farian culture

The Catfolk of the Enan Plain have traditionally consumed the sap as it can be found in nature. Small wounds on the trees' sensitive bark will exude sap which hardens into so-called pesh nuggets. These can easily be picked off by passersby and dissolved in the mouth. It is said that the hallucinations will help those who are lost in the open plain find back home or to safety. Some consume it simply because it can make long treks through the monotonous plains more entertaining.

Large scale production

The pesh fields of Mraka rely on artificially wounding the tree to collect the sap in its still tacky viscous form. The sap is then combined with finely ground dried grass, pressed into small tablets, and left to dry. The resulting pesh pucks are pressed into pipes and smoked to achieve a similar, but much stronger, effect than the nuggets. This form of pesh has recently made its way back into Faria where it is slowly becoming more popular than the traditional way of consuming pesh. Pesh pucks can also be broken up and added to pipeweed to be smoked. The drugs' effects compound to create a devastating high.
