Two huge empires - one on each continent - ruled Materium. Their cavern cities spanning basically everywhere. During this time the elves were driven out of Initium in large numbers and were given their own nation to settle. The dwarves ruled the surface and relied upon levies for their food. Various client states became independent and started competing for territory. As the dwarven empires had kept much of their technology secret, this uncertain state of the world led to a loss of many achievements of the previous era. On [[geography:Eldask]] and northwestern [[geography:Valtio]] this era was dominated by the rise of the [[realms:alranle:overview|Alran Empire]] and its conflict with [[realms:Faresia]].\\ With the truce between the two nations and the subsequent rise to power of the new Alran King [[history:figures:Sidhhael Alrantora]] in 505, along with the popularity of the philosophy of [[history:figures:Darton]], the situation on Eldask stabilisied the Empire stopped expanding. Over time parts of the empire split off and the monarchies power waned.
