Phoenixes

Phoenixes are the messengers of the gods.

They fly against the Soulwind into Eludan to enter the worlds of mortals. There they gather information for the gods, exchange it under each other, and deliver messages to mortals if need be.

When they need to return to Celestium they plunge themselves into the nearest fire, being burned up and traveling back via the Soulwind. If that fire happens to be a campfire or a hearth that is currently used, the Phoenix will leave a gift there, often one of its feathers.

Phoenixes can take on the form of any flight-capable bird. In art they are most often depicted as a form of secretary bird.

Some deities' phoenixes take on the forms of specific birds.

Deel's phoenixes take the forms of corvids, most often crows or ravens. Due to their gods' close relation to the Soulwind they can send messages without fully immolating themselves. Instead they bathe in smoke of chimneys and campfires.

Ania's phoenixes often take the forms of magpies. They were originally of Deel, but Ania took a liking to them and infused them with mischievous spirit.
