Hexahare

Type
Animal
Habitat
temperate forests and fields
cities
Diet
Omnivorous

Hexahares are small rabbit-like animals.

Appearance

A Hexahare in its 'base form' looks like a normal rabbit but with a longer body with three pairs of legs (one front, two hind), antlers, and multiple eyes. Most common changed forms include those with multiple eyes along their body. Leathery wings that assist in leaping, or venom-spikes on their back.

History

One of the last creations of Mothayra shortly before the Fall, it is believed she knew she was about to be corrupted and created the Hexahares to defy corruption in some ways. She tried to change them to Monstrosities but they were sheltered by Ania and saved from it.
The Hexahares eventually became popular as pets among more wealthy and noble families. From where they started multiplying and started becoming pests of sorts in certain cities.

Behaviour

Hexahares display an interesting range of behaviours, they mainly scavenge their food but have been observed hunting small prey in groups. Unlike rabbits and hares, Hexahares do not redigest their food through caecotrophs but aid digestion and their diet instead by chewing woods and stones which may cause considerable structural damage. More notable is that they're extremely territorial when offspring are present and will attack creatures far larger than them. Due to their large size they build complex and vast tunnel networks, however they are also comfortable taking up someone's residential space as their new burrow.

Most notable about the Hexahare is its potential for corruption. The more meat a Hexahare eats the more likely it is its offspring has more monstrous mutations, which also makes it more likely to have a more carnivorous diet, including cannibalizing its own kind, which creates a vicious circle of increasing monstrosity, contributing to their role as pests in cities.
