The dark god Oi'Tovon ascended and took mortals' inherent magic with them.

3rd age: age of the dwarves
about five hundred years
As the dwarves lived underground, where the War following the Fall didn't affect them as much and as they relied more on craftsdwarfship than sorcerous magic, they managed to keep their empires intact.
Two huge empires - one on each continent - ruled Materium. Their cavern cities spanning basically everywhere.
During this time the elves were driven out of Initium in large numbers and were given their own nation to settle.
The dwarves ruled the surface and relied upon levies for their food. As the surface rebuilt from the fall and rebelled against the dwarves, the empires eventually crumbled, most of the cities being deserted and technology was lost.
4th age: age of rebuilding
712 years
After the fall of the dwarven empires a period of warfare spanned the globe. Various client states became independent and started competing for territory. As the dwarven empires had kept much of their technology secret, this uncertain state of the world led to a loss of many achievements of the previous era.
On Eldask and northwestern Valtio this era was dominated by the rise of the Alran Empire and its conflict with Faresia.
With the truce between the two nations and the subsequent rise to power of the new Alran King Sidhael Alrantora in 505, along with the popularity of the philosophy of Darton, the situation on Eldask stabilisied the Empire stopped expanding. Over time parts of the empire split off and the monarchies power waned.
